How To Reach Panchgani - A Guide From My Own Experiences

Panchgani is one of the most popular hill stations in Maharashtra, renowned for its breathtaking scenery, pleasant climate, lush greenery, and stunning mountain views.

Nestled beautifully in the Sahyadri mountain ranges of the Western Ghats at an elevation of 1,334 meters above sea level, Panchgani is a nature lover's paradise that attracts tourists from all over the world throughout the year.

I have been lucky enough to visit Panchgani several times over the past few years. Each trip has been an incredibly memorable experience as I explored the natural beauty, tasted the delicious local cuisine, and discovered hidden local spots.

Reaching Panchgani can seem challenging for first-time visitors, but it's much simpler than you might expect with the right information.

In this article, I will provide a step-by-step guide to reaching Panchgani smoothly based on my personal visits. I'll share tips on the best modes of transport, routes to take, places to stay, and even fun things to do once you arrive.

How To Reach Panchgani

Reaching Panchgani By Road

The simplest and most convenient way to reach Panchgani is by road. It is well connected by Maharashtra State Transport buses as well as private luxury buses to major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, and more.

  • If coming from Mumbai, it takes around 5-6 hours to reach Panchgani

  • From Pune, it is about 3-4 hours by bus

  • You can also drive your own car or bike to Panchgani from nearby cities

While traveling by road has its discomforts, the route offers captivating views of the Western Ghat ranges, rivers, waterfalls, and villages. I always prefer stopping frequently to admire the natural vistas.

Tips for Reaching By Road:

  • Buses: Take an overnight MSRTC bus from Mumbai/Pune for the most convenience

  • Own Vehicle: Drive slow and stop often to enjoy the views en route

  • Route: From Mumbai, take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway to NH48 towards Satara via Kolhapur

No matter how you reach, the road leading up to Panchgani itself is surrounded by a scenic landscape that will take your breath away.

Traveling to Panchgani By Train

While less common than buses or cars, you can also get to Panchgani by rail. The nearest railway station is Wathar Station, just 13 km away from Panchgani. From here you can easily find public transport like buses, taxis, and autos that regularly shuttle tourists to Panchgani village.

Some key trains to catch from major cities are:

You can also take flights to domestic airports in Mumbai or Kolhapur followed by a road transfer by taxi or bus to Panchgani town.
